A treasure hunt is underway across Invercargill's parks, as part of the Parks Week 2022 celebrations organised by Invercargill City Council (ICC).
Five bird and five plant rubbing tiles have been placed in parks throughout the city, and finding all ten wins you a special badge, says ICC manager Parks and Recreation Caroline Rain
Parks Week is a New Zealand and Australia-wide annual event designed to celebrate the vital role parks play in creating liveable cities and thriving communities.
Rain said council had aimed to come up with a fun and unique way of celebrating Parks Week that would get people outdoors enjoying the city’s places and spaces.
“As we’ve been learning over the past couple of years, spending time in our public spaces is more precious than ever and it’s nice to be celebrating them.”
“We want people to head out into our fantastic parks and discover the amazing range of plants and birds that live there,” she says.
“People can visit the Parks Week page on our Council website to find downloads to print out. Then take them and a pencil or crayon to our parks, find our special rubbing tiles and collect as many rubbings as you can.”
In addition to the rubbing tile hunt, Rain says there are also colouring-in competitions whānau can print out and colour in to go in the draw to win Splash Palace family passes.
Parks Week 2022 in particular has a focus on how spending time in our parks and open spaces positively influences wellbeing.
Parks week runs until March 13.
