The Holt Park Camping Ground in Otautau will be closed later this month until the end of September as it undergoes a substantial upgrade.
Southland District Council community partnership leader Kelly Tagg said the project would enhance the Holt Park Camping Ground for visitors to the rural town.
“The community board identified the need for this work and it’s great to finally reach the starting point,” she said.
“We need to ensure visitors to Otautau have a great experience and that includes accommodation which meets their needs.”
The upgrade, scheduled to start on 22 July, will feature revamped kitchen, toilet and bathroom facilities and the installation of a verandah.
“This will be the first time the building has been refurbished to this extent since the camping ground was established in the 1960s so it’s long overdue,” Mrs Tagg said.
“Our focus is on bringing it up to current standards and expectations.”
The camping ground will be temporarily closed from 17 July for the duration of the renovation work which is expected to be completed by 30 September.
