Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) campuses in Gore, Christchurch, Balclutha (Telford), Queenstown, and Invercargill were lively this week as they welcomed new and returning students for the 2025 academic year during O-Week.

The week began with a pōwhiri attended by Minister of Vocational Education Penny Simmonds and Invercargill Mayor Nobby Clark.

SIT Kaumatua Michael Skerrett led the welcome, with Te Wānanga o Aotearoa kaiako Henry Johnson responding.

SIT Operations Lead Daryl Haggerty highlighted the institution's offerings, including the Zero Fees Scheme, industry-standard facilities, and dedicated Student Services.

Market Day featured stallholders, games, and free food, with SIT’s barbecue and XO Church’s coffee caravan adding to the welcoming atmosphere.

Pacific Island dancers and a SIT band entertained the crowd, while stallholders provided information about local services.

On Tuesday, Halo’s Hangi served free food to around 500 people.

The orientation ended with a Wellbeing Festival on Wednesday, featuring over 20 wellbeing providers offering support and information.
