Covid-19 Level 2 crowd restrictions have forced the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) to postpone its Invercargill concert tomorrow (March 4) night, meaning the winners of The Southland App ticket giveaway will have to wait to claim their prize.
A large number of people entered the draw to win one of two double passes to the show. The winners are Toni McDonald, and Robert McAnelly, both of Invercargill. Neither have seen the NZSO perform live before. Their tickets will be held and reissued when a new date has been announced.
The postponed concert in Invercargill is titled Town and Country and boasts an exciting selection of music inspired by the splendour of the countryside and the energy of towns and cities. It features internationally acclaimed conductor and NZSO Music Director Emeritus James Judd. School concerts of Peter and the Wolf scheduled for the same day have also been postponed. Planned performances at Wanaka, Dunedin, Oamaru and Ashburton this week have also been affected.

NZSO Chief Executive Peter Biggs says the Orchestra’s No. 1 priority is the health and safety of its audience and performers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We know our South Island audiences will be very disappointed that the NZSO has had to postpone the concerts. We also know they understand the challenges their national orchestra faces because of Covid-19 restrictions. We are determined to bring these exciting concerts to Wanaka, Invercargill, Dunedin, Oamaru and Ashburton later this year.”
