UPDATE: 10 November – Night closure for Balclutha Bridge postponed due to weather

A closure scheduled for tonight for State Highway 1/Balclutha Bridge, and for nearby Gormack Street in Balclutha, has been postponed until tomorrow night because of forecast rain.

The bridge closure will now take place from 9pm tomorrow (Tuesday 11 November), reopening at 5am on Wednesday for the completion of the work. During this closure, the bridge will reopen on the hour, every hour to allow queued traffic to pass.

Work will also take place on Gormack Street between 5pm and 9pm tomorrow, with a lane shift on SH1/Essex Street. Temporary speed restrictions and side road closures will also be in place.

This traffic management is required for crews to safely excavate sections of the road surface and replace them with new asphalt.
