New chair for Community Trust SouthCommunity Trust South (CTS) has announced the appointment of Kirsty Pickett as the new Heamana/Chair of Community Trust South

Community Trust South (CTS) has announced the appointment of Kirsty Pickett as the new Heamana/Chair of Community Trust South.


Pickett takes over the Trust’s role from Moran, who has resigned as a Trustee as he now resides out of the region.  

 

Moran said it had been a privilege to sit on CTS, first as a Trustee and as the Trust’s Heamana/Chair.



"I am pleased to leave the Trust in good stead with its focus on supporting our Southern communities to thrive and achieve their aspirations.”

 

Appointed to the Trust in 2020 Pickett is based in Te Anau and has served as Heamana Tuarua/Deputy Chair since October 2022.


She is a businesswoman, award-winning journalist, editor and publisher. She has had extensive experience in print and online media.



Pickett is also active within Southland's Scottish scene, as both a highland dance teacher and judge and also the convenier of the Te Anau Tartan Festival.

 

Stephen Canny, who was appointed as a Trustee in June 2019, has been confirmed as the Heamana Tuarua /Deputy Chair.


Canny is a Business and Strategic Projects Group Manager, based in Invercargill. 



He has managed the successful completion of large projects such as Southland’s Regional Energy Strategy, Whole Community Broadband Network as well as major civil and mechanical engineering projects including satellite and space ground stations and terrestrial television.

 

The positions of Heamana and Heamana Tuarua are elected by the Trustees.
