Three Community Trust South trustees, including chairwoman Margo Hishon, have not been re-appointed to their roles in the upcoming financial year.
Mrs Hishon, whose business interests involve farming and construction, along with Queenstown-based financial advisor Warren Skerrett, and Invercargill-based financial advisor Stephen O'Connor have not been re-appointed in their roles that begin next month.
Mata Cherrington has been re-appointed for another term ending on May 31, 2023.
The trustee appointments are made by the Minister of Finance, after receiving nominations from the trust and from a range of other organisations and individuals within the trust’s region.
A spokesman for associate finance minister David Clark said in deciding on trustee appointments, he considered the balance of knowledge, skills, and expertise in the areas of investments, grant-making, governance, and community and voluntary sector involvement, among others.
"Some trusts have also specified desired skills and attributes for this appointment round, which the Minister has taken into consideration.
"Trustees should be representative of their communities, particularly tangata whenua, and people with diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Community representation requires an appropriate balance of members by gender, age and geographical distribution."
The new appointed trustees are Bill Moran, Steve Canny and David Goble. The appointment is for an initial term of four years beginning on June 1 and ending on May 31, 2023.
Mr Moran, of Queenstown, is a public servant who worked at the Treasury for 31 years. Mr Canny, of Invercargill, is the business general manager for Venture Southland and is Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the community, governance and cycling. Mr Goble, of Invercargill, is a senior investment adviser with more than 35 years’ experience in the investment and trust industries.
Mrs Hishon welcomed the new trustees' appointment, noting they would bring an excellent blend of skills and experience.
Deputy Chair Lindsay Wright will fill the role as acting chairman until a permanent appointment for the chair position is decided later in June. Mr Wright paid tribute to the three outgoing trustees.
"Margot, Warren and Stephen have made a significant contribution to the Trust over the past four years. The leadership and direction which came from their combined community, financial and cultural knowledge has been greatly appreciated.
"We now welcome our new appointees to the Trust. We look forward with anticipation to the skills they will bring, and contribution they will make in the future."
The 10 Community Trust South trustees are Lindsay Wright (Acting Chair), John Wyeth, Penny Simmonds, David Goble, Richard Wason, Trish Boyle, Bill Moran, Mata Cherrington, Stephen Canny, and Michael Wilson.
