New Zealand NBA superstar Steven Adams will hold a training camp in Invercargill later this month.

The Oklahoma City Thunder centre will host the camp at ILT Stadium Southland on August 16 between 10am and 2pm.

Southland Basketball Association (SBA) general manager Jill Bolger said it was a big coup for Southland to have a clinic from an NBA player.

She said they had been approached several months ago by Adam's people and were thrilled that they had been selected.

"It’s fantastic to see Steven getting around the country and inspiring and motivation our young people, whether they be basketballers or not, to succeed both on and off the sporting fields."

She said due to the interest of the camps there would be limited numbers available, with first tickets given to SBA members and volunteers before then being opened up to the public.

Further details on tickets for the camp are expected to be released by the end of the week.
