Police have today released the name of the man who died following a diving incident near Owaka Heads on Sunday.

He was 23-year-old Jake Bridson, of Heriot.

Police were called about 12pm on Sunday after Mr Bridson became separated from others in his party.

A search was initiated and he was found about 1.40pm, however he was not able to be revived and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The matter has been referred to the coroner.
