SH 6 remains partially closed and six people are in the care of St John after a Central Invercargill building caught fire overnight.

A FENZ spokesperson said everyone was now out of the building.
Emergency services responded to a multi-storey building on the corner of Spey and Dee Streets at 1am this morning (6 Sep), after receiving multiple 111 calls in quick succession.

Initally two fire trucks from Invercargill responded but this was quickly increased to seven fire trucks from Invercargill, Kingswell, Wallacetown and Bluff.
Crews arrived to a building well involved in fire and quickly got to work to extingish the fire and protect nearby buildings.
SH6 remains closed to north bound traffic, between Victoria Avenue and Tay Street.
The southbound lane was reopened at 6am, at a reduced speed, but the northbound lane remains closed to traffic.
3 fire trucks and 1 support vehicle are still on the scene.
A Fire investigator is expected to return to the scene this morning.
