An opportunity is now available in our resource management planning team.

The Monitoring and Enforcement Officer will work with our community to ensure compliance with environmental policies.

This key position will ultimately contribute to the protection of Southland’s flora and fauna for future generations.

Having the largest land area to manage of any territorial authority and some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world (including Stewart Island, Milford and the Catlins), Southland District Council are passionate about making sure that these jewels are protected.

Accountabilities include:

• state of the environment monitoring
• investigating resource management complaints
• ensuring compliance with district plan and resource consents
• drafting recommendation reports
• building relationships and resolving issues confidently.

Our ideal candidate will:

• have excellent knowledge and understanding of the RMA
• have experience in communicating, negotiating and building relationships under challenging circumstances
• have an ability to empower others and affect change for the better of the environment
• be able to conduct robust investigations, write comprehensive written reports and complete legislative requirements if required.
