Mataura residents are being urged to immediately conserve water following an increase in demand putting pressure the water networks ability to supply.
Gore District Council said while water levels at the network's Pleura Dam were fine, it's pumps were unable to keep up with the current demand.
GDC, in it's social media post, blamed its water supply issue on the spell of hot weather Southland was currently experiencing.
The Southland District Council has already placed a sprinkler ban throughout it's district, and blamed the current pressure its Riverton and Te Anau water networks on the annual influx of visitors to those holiday hotspots.
