A man has died following a water-related incident in Milford Sound yesterday (8 Oct).

Police advised that emergency services were alerted to two people in need of assistance in the water at around 12.50pm.

Another person received minor injuries, they said.

Milford Sound has had limited road access in recent days due to snow and the avalanche hazard on Milford Road. Yesterday the road was closed.

Yesterday's death will be referred to the Coroner.
