Man charged with attempted murder

A 42-year-old man has been charged with four counts of attempted murder following yesterday's attack at Dunedin Countdown.


The man was released from hospital last night and moved to Dunedin Central Police Station.


He allegedly stabbed staff and shoppers at the Cumberland Street supermarket.

Three of the injured are now described as in a serious but stable condition. A fourth person is in a moderate condition.


The man is scheduled to appear in the Dunedin District Court today.


"Enquiries at the scene will resume this morning," a police spokesperson said.


Police continue to encourage anyone who has information, including video footage of the incident, to get in touch with Police via 105 and quote file number 210510/8009.
