A male is in a critical condition and a female has serious injuries after a firearms incident in Invercargill overnight.

Both received gunshot wounds and have been flown to Dunedin Hospital.

Police were called to a Centre Street address at around 1.10am this morning.

They remain at the scene and are conducting an examination this morning along with further enquiries.
