A shed blaze has destroyed several trucks and a loader at Northern Southland Transport's Lumsden yard overnight (28 Dec).

FENZ were alerted to the commercial building fire, on the south side of Lumsden, at 10.31pm last night.

Initially crews from Lumsden and Balfour attended and found a workshop and 4-bay truck shed to be well alight.

Fire crews from Mossburn and Dipton were then called, along with water tankers from Lumsden, Balfour and Mossburn.

The number of fire units on the scene also prompted the callout of a command unit from the Invercargill Fire Station.

A FENZ spokesperson said the building had been extensively damaged.

Crews remained at the scene until 3.15am this morning (29 Dec).

A fire investigator is currently on the way to the scene to investigate the cause of the blaze.
