Southlanders are being urged to get in their nominees for Invercargill Licensing Trust’s 2021/2022 Southland Sports Awards, before nominations close next week.
The awards are aimed at recognising Southlanders who have made outstanding contributions to sport in the region, in categories including Sportsperson of the Year, Coach of the Year and Administrator of the Year.
Invercargill Licensing Trust (ILT), who run the awards, say they are a golden opportunity to acknowledge and showcase the amazing people who have achieved at a high level in sport, and the people who work so hard to make sport happen, like administrators, officials and volunteers.
They are also introducing a new category for 2022 – the Community Impact award. This is for any project or initiative that an organisation may have instigated over the past 12 months which has had a significant impact on the community.
ILT says the aim of the Southland Sports Awards is to inspire the sporting community, recognise and honour outstanding achievements and performances, and promote positive sporting role models for Southlanders.
The qualifying period is 1 April 2021 – 31 March 2022.
All nominations (except for Services to Sport) must reflect performances within this period.
There is no restriction on the number of times an award can be won by an individual or team, but a nominee cannot be nominated for two categories in any one year.
Nominees will either reside in Southland, be affiliated with a Southland organisation, or have a strong connection with Southland.
