Police have located the kayaker, whose upturned kayak sparked a search involving Police, local boats and a helicopter late yesterday afternoon (10 Jun).

Police said the kayaker was safe and well, and they will not be taking any further action.

Police thanked the prompt action of the public who had raised the alarm.

Searches undertaken by Fiordland Land Search and Rescue and Southern Lakes Helicopters were greatly appreciated, they said.

Police encourage all recreational water users ensure all their equipment is removed from the water and area at the end of any activities to prevent any undue alarm being raised.
