Invercargill accountant and financial executive Bharat Guha was yesterday (29 Oct) appointed to the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) board.
The appointment, along with that of economist Dr Alan Bollard CNZM, was announced yesterday (29 Oct) by Tertiary Education and Skills Minister, and Invercargill MP Penny Simmonds.
Singaporean born Guha arrived in New Zealand in 1984 before gaining degrees in Commerce and Business Administration from the University of Otago.
Guha spent over 20 years at the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) as deputy chief executive corporate/chief financial officer.
A chartered accountant, Guha is currently the Chief Financial Officer at the Invercargill Licensing Trust (ILT).
Simmonds welcomed Guha to the TEC board. and said he had strong financial skills and extensive senior management experience in vocational education and training.
She said Guha had been one of the architects of the SIT zero fees scheme.
“His deep knowledge and sound governance experience, will inject new levels of energy and engagement into the commission," Simmonds said.
