Invercargill Central has launched an inner city scavenger hunt-styled activity this weekend to encourage locals to check out the array of murals brightening the city.

More than 130 artists, schools, families, community groups, businesses and organisations have contributed colourful murals, in a bid to brighten the CBD during the inner-city rebuild, as well as to showcase local art.

The art trail and scavenger hunt runs from today (October 3) until Sunday, October 11.

From 11am-3pm today (October 3) some of the artists who painted the murals will also be dotted around the trail to meet the kids and speak about their art.

Invercargill Central Public Relations Manager Amy Hibbs said Children and adults alike could take part in the scavenger hunt by downloading a question sheet from the Invercargill Central website or by picking up a printed copy from Young Reflections, McKnight & Brown, Shoe Clinic or Vodafone.

For a chance to win one of three prizes, return the sheet to any of those same retailers by October 11.

Ms Hibbs said the day out would be a great opportunity to enjoy the ‘open-air gallery’ and show support for the local artists.

“The public can start anywhere along the trail… we’re encouraging families to come along to the CBD and check out he amazing art that people in our community have created,” she said.

“There are also plenty of viewing windows around the [inner-city development] block to look into the site to see what's happening.”

The art will be on display until 2022.
