ILT kicked off the first of its two Christmas dinners for Invercargill residents over 70 at the Ascot Park Hotel on Monday night (11 Dec), ushering in the holiday season.

The highly anticipated dinner treats 700 guests to a delightful three-course meal, great company, and entertainment. Local acts will add to the celebration with performances from the Invercargill Garrison Band, Waihopai School’s champion Jump Jam group and singer Lydia Bloomfield. Stalwart Margaret Bates will once again add to the ambience with her keyboard.

The ILT board members and staff volunteer their time to serve guests. ILT President Paddy O’Brien shared the board’s enthusiasm for the evening.

"The board and staff eagerly anticipate this event each year, it really is a highlight for us and something we look forward to every year."

"It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with the older members of our community and acknowledge the enduring contributions they make to our city," added Mr O’Brien.

ILT Chief Executive Chris Ramsay echoed these sentiments, saying, "We are thrilled to host the Christmas dinners again this year. We know it’s an occasion that is marked early in the calendar by both ILT and our guests.”

"We support the community throughout all stages of their lives, and we’re delighted to have the chance to look after the older members of our community. We are here to take care of them so they can relax for the evening," Mr Ramsay said.

Every year, ILT extends invitations to the city residents over the age of 70 to apply for a chance to be a guest at the Christmas dinners. The fortunate recipients are randomly selected to partake in the festivities.

Since it began in 1993, ILT has proudly served over 25,000 meals at the memorable Christmas event.
