HR and Payroll Manager - Fiordland Lobster Company

Fiordland Lobster Company is dedicated to the sustainable fishing and live export of wild-caught Southern Rock Lobster. Started by fishers in New Zealand’s breathtakingly beautiful Fiordland National Park in the 1980s, the company has grown to become the largest supplier of the most prized lobster in the world.


We are looking for an energetic team member to join us to support both our New Zealand and Australian operations. Fiordland Lobster Company has operations throughout New Zealand and in three states of Australia. This role oversees the management of the HR and Payroll functions in both countries. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, working alongside managers, staff and external providers, this is a role which offers an exciting opportunity for someone looking for a new challenge.


The role will consist of, but not be limited to:


HR Management

  • Advise, interpret and provide direction with the assistance of HR Legal advisors to management and staff on organisation policies, contractual conditions, procedures and legalisation regulations involving payroll and HR matters.
  • Address employee queries.
  • Assist with Recruitment and Inductions
  • Supporting Managers with any people issues including injury management
  • Preparing HR Reports
  • Maintaining Personnel files and Documentation while keeping company policies updated.


Payroll Processing

  • Accurately and timely facilitate the processing of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls with 3rd party providers.
  • Process payroll from start to finish if required
  • Meet IRD and ATO filing requirements.
  • Liaising with external agencies in both New Zealand and Australia (such as Inland Revenue Department, Australian Tax Office, ACC, Workcover and Health Insurance providers, Ministry of Justice, Courts deductions, etc.) when required.
  • Authorising payment of the reconciliation and payment of KiwiSaver and Superannuation related deductions.
  • Produce Ad-hoc reports as requested by staff and managers.
  • Ensure reports are checked for 100% accuracy before distribution and reconciled with the General Ledger accounts. Carry out any reconciliation/accounting procedures connected with the pay function.
  • Assist external and internal auditors during audit process by providing documents.


Requirements

Strong knowledge and understanding gained through previous New Zealand payroll experience, including experience in payroll operations from start to finish payroll processing.


Knowledge and understanding of New Zealand Payroll related legalisation and amendments including the Holidays Act 2003, Employment Relations Act 2000, Kiwisaver Act 2006, Minimum Wage Act, Parental Leave Act, Employment Law, Privacy Act etc, would also be an advantage.


Knowledge of, or willingness to understand applicable Australian Payroll related legislation.


Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities with the ability to support fellow team members, and managers and staff from the wider business.


Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.


Knowledge of Payroll systems and proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, with a willingness to learn and administrate new systems.


This is a full-time position based in Te Anau office. We are open to intermediate Payroll or HR professionals who are eager to step up.
