The grooviest, hippest and most rad fundraiser to hit Southland this month is set to bring in some much needed funds for a much needed organisation.
Woodstock Revival – Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves is the first fundraising event Hospice Southland has ever run on its own and will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Woodstock music festival.
Hospice Southland community funding manager Kara Glover said the idea was to highlight that "we’re living every moment".
"While we may be perceived as being caring for those who are end-of-life, we’re still, and people are still, enjoying life and want to have fun with life. And that’s what the Woodstock event is all about."
Mrs Glover said Hospice Southland relied heavily on fundraising to go alongside grants it receives to operate, with $2.5 million needed annually for the organisation to operate effectively.
She said they had been very fortunate to have had a lot of other companies raise funds for them, but it felt like a good time to run something themselves.
The night will involve a best dressed competition as well as a variety of auctions with items donated from local businesses.
There will also be a sit down meal, as well as a live band and a special appearance by 'Austin Powers'.
"We really want people to come along, really get a sense of who we are, what we are about and enjoy the night. It’s really going to be all about having fun," Mrs Glover said.
The event will be held on July 20 at the Invercargill Workingmen's Club, with tickets available via www.hospicesouthland.org.nz or at Hospice Southland.
