UPDATE: 1,440 Hilux have gathered at Real Country Farm according to GWD Toyota's 4.30pm post to their social media page
Hilux owners are being encouraged to park up at Real Country Farm in Kingston this Sunday (2 March) in an attempt to break the world record for the most Toyota Hiluxs gathered at the same place.
The current world record was claimed in 2010 when the Four-Wheel Drive Club of the Western Cape, South Africa, organised a gathering of 495 Toyota Hiluxs.
Production of the Toyota Hilux started in Japan in March 1968, with the first utes landing in New Zealand in the early 1970s.
Popular for a multitude of commercial, rural and personal uses, the Toyota Hilux has consistently been one of New Zealand's top selling utes.
In 2019 the Hilux lost its poll position to the Ford Ranger, however it still remains New Zealand's second most popular ute.
It is estimated there are currently around 70,000 Hiluxs still registered in New Zealand.
