Snow down south is set to give the Cardrona ski field its best start to the season in decades.

Part of the mountain opened this weekend and blizzard-like conditions dumped a further 60-centimeters across the alpine resort.

There's been so much snow that the mountain is closed today so roads can be cleared and the rest of the ski fields set up.
