A collection of paintings by celebrated New Zealand landscape artist Jonathan R White will be brought together in Invercargill later this month.
Our Landscape: Through the brush of Jonathan R White MNZM opens at He Waka Tuia on Saturday, 31 July, and will feature what will likely be the last exhibition of his work.
The Whakatane-based artist has explored the great outdoors for over 50 years, tramping throughout New Zealand and internationally in search of his next subject.
Through his adventures he ended in up in some of the most remote valleys of New Zealand, met some of New Zealand's legendary characters, and lived to tell the tale.

Manager of Museum and Heritage Services Wayne Marriott said the exhibition will highlight the uniqueness of White's work.
"His landscapes envelop the viewer, making one feel as if they could simply take a step forward and suddenly be part of the landscape they are seeing," Marriott said.
White, who has retired from painting, carefully examined the techniques used by master painters, whether in the Western tradition or the Eastern European tradition.
The Southland Museum and Art Gallery/Niho o te Taniwha last hosted an exhibition of Jonathan’s work in 1986, and this latest exhibition was originally suggested by the late Irene Schroder, former curator of visual arts.
