The Fiordland Trails Trust is organising an inaugural half-marathon along its popular Lake2Lake Trail this August.
Fiordland runners won't have to make the drive elsewhere for to run in a long-distance race this winter, with the trust bringing the iconic distance run along the scenic Upper Waiau River.
The race, scheduled to take place on August 24, will start at the original Hydro Construction Village, a temporary settlement that housed staff working to build the Manapouri Power Scheme in the 1960s and 70s.
Runners will follow the Upper Waiau river and Lake Te Anau foreshore before crossing the finish line at the Marakura Yacht Club.
The event, which is sponsored by Meridian Energy, will raise funds for the trail's maintenance.
