Gore tap water is to remain off-limits to water drinkers for at least another two days according to the latest water update issued this evening (19 Jul) by Gore District Council (GDC).
The GDC issued a notice yesterday evening advising residents of Gore not to drink their tap water after nitrate levels above the maximum acceptable value were detected in the town's water supply.
Drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth using the tap water should be avoided, while parents with infants aged under six months and pregnant women are urged to be extra careful.
Water tankers have been located at strategic locations throughout the town to ensure safe drinking water is available to residents.
These are located at Eccles Street Playground, Hokonui Drive by the fire station, Grace Church on Hamilton Street, Wentworth Street outside East Gore School and the Gore Trout.
This evenings council update said lab results had confirmed that diluting the Cooper's Well supply was working but there was still nitrate concentrations in the supply.
However there needs to be three clear days of testing before residents can safely drink the town's water, the latest council notice said.
The next lab results are expected tomorrow evening (20 Jul).
