Invercargill City Councillor and former Deputy Mayor Toni Biddle, will say goodbye to council on Monday (October 19) to begin a new chapter in her life.
Ms Biddle, who will now resume going by her married name MacLellan, resigned suddenly last Friday (October 9), saying the heavy workload from having to do Mayor Shadbolt’s job for him and the toxic working environment at the ICC had eventually taken its toll.
Mrs MacLellan said she was no rush to start a new career and was just looking forward to spending quality time with her friends and family this summer.
She took to Facebook to thank the community for the journey, posting the last line of the council’s prayer: “Enable us, now and always, worthily to discharge the sacred trust placed by the people”.

She said she was leaving with her head held high, having remained true to herself, and was proud of her achievements.
Mrs MacLellan served on the council for four years and has been the deputy mayor since October 2019.
Cr Nobby Clark has been selected by the Mayor to be the new deputy mayor. He will formally assume his new position on Monday.
