WHATS HAPPENING
There have been some cooler temperatures this week with quite a bit of rain and gale force winds..
I am just hoping for a warmer weekend!
Over all our summer has not been that flash.
New in this week are the 1st of the spring bulbs.
Just arrived are the Anenomes, Ranunculus, Freesia, Hyacinth, Gladioli nana, Crocus and the common but favourite Matcheads.
One of the earliest to flower are the Crocus and its a great reminder that spring is coming.
We are at the tailend of the winter months.
Best colour would have to be the Fuchsia.
We have a good deal going on these at the moment with 3 for $30.00.
We have Agapanthus in shades of blue and some in white.
These are great for border planting, coastal or even on difficult banks.
Best potted colour are the Gazanias.
Beautiful bright daisies that open in warm conditions.
Great for pots.
Geraniums are also looking good and we have another young batch of Petunias and Marigolds.
The shop has just rung and said we have had a new lot of Geraniums delivered.
Normally $6.99 but reduced to $5.00.
So get in quick....
Manuka special in full swing and these are flying out the door.
ONLY $5.00 each
A new supply of sheep pellets in store which are always popular for the garden but we do have many other options for you..
Palletised seaweed, Complete nutrition, Sheep & chicken manure, Blood & Bone, Seaweed Gypsum and Zeolite (organic slow release over 6 months).
Now is a good time to get some fertiliser around your plants while there is some rain and warmth.
Mulch is also a good option.
Plenty of peastraw available.
This suppresses the weeds and holds moisture over dry weather. (no sign of that at the moment)
A new supply of citrus plants have come in.
Lemon, Lime and Mandarins.
These need protection from the frosts over winter but thrive over the summer.
Best planted in pots or in a tunnelhouse and fed regularly with fruit tree fertiliser.
Vege plants are in huge demand again after everyone has returned from holiday.
Another crop now will mature over winter.
Cabbage, Cauli, Broccoli and Brussel Sprouts all need attention when the white butterfly are out.
Sprinkle derris dust or neem granules to deter caterpillers.
Lettuce will mature before winter and it's not to late to put a bit more carrot seed in.
WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING
Weeding after the rain is a good idea.
Weeds always take off in warm damp conditions.
Harvesting your Tomatoes, Cucumber & Courgettes.
It doesn't hurt to take your Parsnip, Carrot and Potato tops down to half size if they are getting too big.
But do watch out for insects..
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND
