GARDENING: Diacks Newsletter 15th January

WHATS HAPPENING

Welcome back guys and a Happy New year to you all.

I hope you all had a really good xmas and the best New year.

We are all back to work now and back into the swing of it.

We have had some really good HOT summer days this week.

Great for the weeds & lawns to grow and for us keeping the water up to the gardens.

Best sales this new year have been sprinklers, hoses & weed killer.

Now is a good time to treat weeds as they are at optimum health and growth.

Sprayed now means they will soak it up quickly and die faster before they throw any seeds.

Watering systems are all go with this heat.

We stock a good variety of hoses, sprinklers, watering cans & timers but one of the best we sell is the soaker hose.

Nothing to go wrong and not much pressure required.

One of our shop favourites though is the oscillating sprinkler.

They cover a wide area and deliver a good amount of water.

Seed potatoes are still in demand.

We still have Agria (creamy flesh) Desiree (red) & Nadine (white).

Most customers have had an early crop and are now planting again for Easter.

Vegetable gardens are getting another planting.

Cabbage, Cauli, Broccoli, & Silverbeet.

Lettuce planted now will mature in 6 weeks.

We still have a few bareroot leeks for sale and a great range of herbs.

Plenty of potted colour about with the Begonias at their best.

Non stop and cascading varieties being the most popular.

There is also a good crop of lavender at the moment as well.

Pacific Blue is a good strong English variety.

We have had a good week tidying & restocking our our shrub area.

The camellias & rhododendrons have made a lot of new growth.

Pitto's are looking good.

Stephens Island are a firm favourite.

Some smaller varieties like Midget, Sumo & Stumpy are good for pots & border hedging.

Callunas are in bud and ready to flower and Ericas make great colour for the winter.

We have also had a good tidy up of the topiary area so if you are looking for the formal look there are some good plants in that area.

Indoor plants are still in BIG demand and we have a very impressive selection.

Some are our own grown out the back.
