Queenstown's congested Frankton intersection is about to get traffic lights as part of a $250 million dollar NZTA Waka Kotahi redesign.
The transports agency says the work, which is expected to start in September and take 12-18 months to complete, will not only help ease congestion on the main arterial route into Queenstown and to Cromwell, but also provide greater capacity for buses, as well as improving safety.
Traffic lights will also be installed at the adjacent SH6/Hansen Road/Joe O’Connell Drive intersection.
The Bus Hub will also be extended, with traffic lights at its entry and exit points.
New bus stops, cycle lanes, a walking and cycling path as well as a roundabout at the SH6 and Howards Drive intersection will also be completed as part of the plan
NZTA Waka Kotahi said there will also be work to be done with utilities and services to get them across SH6 and through the golf course, as well as move the golf course entrance.
