Flushing flow from Manapouri Lake Control Structure this Thursday

Meridian Energy is releasing a flushing flow from Manapōuri Lake Control Structure to the lower Waiau River commencing at 7pm Thursday 18 January.

The release is made under Meridian’s consent conditions and a protocol to release a flow to assist in managing nuisance periphyton in the Lower Waiau River when surveys at nominated downstream locations indicate a release is required.

The release will reach a peak of approximately 160 cumecs, with a 24-hour average of 120 cumecs, and will be completed by 12pm (midday) Saturday 20 January.

We encourage all river users to take extra care during this time.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou - thank you!
