Environment Southland has issued flood warnings for rivers across the district.
Heavy rain has affected Waiau River Te Waewae Lagoon, the Lill Burn Valley at Lill Burn-Monowai Road, the Waihopai River at Kennington, Waikawa River at Biggar Road and Waituna Creek at Marshall Road.
Te Waewae Lagoon, a wetland about 5 minutes from Tuatapere and 30 minutes from Riverton, is the worst affected.
The river is 2.23 metres above normal and rising 49 mm/hour.

But the Flood Warning Operations Centre's Duty Flood Warning Officer Grace Finlayson says at this stage, the flood levels are not a major concern.
"It's really just the lower Waiau that's particularly high at the moment, and the others have come down over the day.
"But there is more scattered rain forecast for today and tomorrow and then heavy rain on Sunday.
"There's not really any big issues at this point, other than those high water levels in the lower Waiau, but people should keep an eye on the website and look at the most recent data.
