This morning Environment Southland activated its flood warning system mainly due to high river levels in and around the upper Oreti River.
Significant rain in the Fiordland and Western Southland areas this weekend has caused local streams to run at or in some cases above capacity.
There is currently still a weather warning in force for Fiordland, and more rain is still expected in the Fiordland area over the rest of the week. It is possible this may cross over in the upper reaches of other Southland rivers.
