Fiordland Wapiti Foundation (FWF) venison has just found its way into one of the country's leading burger restaurants, with the launch of BurgerFuel's gourmet burger, Wild Heart.
The restaurant chain developed the limited-edition special burger, in partnership with Citizen Collective, WITHWILD and the FWF.
Promising to be 100% locally sourced, the burger will feature not only a Fiordland venison patty, but also BBQ black rub, truffle mascarpone, wonky carrot, mesclun salad, beetroot with chia seeds, Central Otago cherry sauce and aioli.
The restaurant chain also promise to donate $1 from each Wild Heart burger sold back to the FWF so that it can continue its work in the National Park.
The restaurant chain expects Wild Heart burger sales will collectively use 4.3 tonnes of WITHWILD Fiordland Wapiti, 102,000kgs of Citizen Central Otago Cherries, 300kgs of broken Pukekohe carrots and every can of Rescued Cherry Cola will save 29 perfectly good cherries from going to waste.

The FWF usually removes around 800 - 1000 animals each year from the national park.
