Police have named the man who died following a boat rolling in Fiordland on Saturday afternoon.

He was 57-year-old Peter John McKenzie of Invercargill.

In a statement released this afternoon, police said Mr McKenzie and his two companions made it to shore near the river mouth at Wairaurahiri, but Mr McKenzie had died by the time emergency services arrived.

The statement said police are continuing to make inquiries into the death on behalf of the Coroner.
