The reinstatement of Covid-19 Alert Level Two has forced Fiordland’s Department of Conservation to cancel its Sunday film night, planned to kick off Conservation Week.
DOC Fiordland ranger Crystal Brindle confirmed 2040, by award-winning director Damon Gameau, could not go ahead under the current Covid situation but Friday's weeding bee on the Lake 2 Lake Trail, with the Fiordland Trails Trust, is still going ahead.
The movie embarks on a journey to explore what the future would look like by the year 2040 if people embraced the best available solutions to improve the planet and shifted them into the mainstream.
DOC’s Facebook page says the rest of Conservation Week’s scheduled events will be reassessed "in due time".
As soon as another screening date can be secured the film will be re-advertised on Facebook and Eventfinda.
Conservation Week runs from August 15 -23. The theme is Nature Through New Eyes.
Participants in Friday's weeding bee should meet at the Marakura Yacht Club carpark at 10am. Bring lunch and a drink, sturdy shoes, warm clothes or overalls, gardening gloves, secateurs, loppers or hand saw.
Some gloves and hand tools will be provided, along with Vigilant gel. If wet, check Fiordland Trails Trust Facebook page for an update.
