Emergency services were called to explosion at a house in Rothesay Place in South Invercargill this afternoon.
Fire and Emergency were called to a residential property in the suburb of Rockdale at 1.26 pm after a 111 call was made to St John Ambulance reporting several injuries following an explosion.
A spokesperson for Fire and Emergency said the fire had started in the kitchen and dining area and there had been “substantial damage” to the house, and it “could not be stayed in tonight”.

The spokesperson said three people were injured and two were taken to hospital. None received life threating injuries.
The fire investigator left the scene just before 6pm and the spokesperson said the fire was not marked as suspicious.
Two fire crews from Invercargill attended the scene and the fire has since been extinguished.
A police spokesperson said cordons were still in place at the scene.
