Drugs, firearms and stolen property seized by police

Eleven people have been arrested after a series of recent search warrants across the Southern District.

Invercargill CIB acting detective sergeant Matt Wyatt said eight warrants were executed over the last 10 days in Invercargill, Gore, and Queenstown, targeting organised criminal networks and serious offending.

Five search warrants were executed in Invercargill, two in Gore, and one in Queenstown.

"These warrants have been part of our continued efforts to reduce crime and harm in our communities,” Mr Wyatt said.

The eleven arrested included gang members and associates.

Ten of those arrested are men – aged 50, 54, 38, 60, 30, 21, 24, 29, 31 and a 44-year-old.

The eleventh person is a 30-year-old female.

They are appearing in Court on varying days in Invercargill, Gore and Queenstown District Courts.

They face charges relating to firearms, Class A and B drugs, and dishonesty.

Six firearms, a large amount of ammunition, methamphetamine, cannabis and synthetic drugs were seized, along with cash and stolen property.

Police say the arrests and seizures have helped disrupt, deter and dismantle organised criminal networks in the Southern District.

"It’s pleasing to have been able to make a dent in local organised crime groups and put offenders before the courts,” Mr Wyatt said.

"This all helps contribute to our communities being safe and feeling safe.”

Police would remind the community to help them in reporting any suspicious or unusual behaviour.

If you see criminal activity or suspicious behaviour happening, please call 111. Information can also be provided to your local Police station, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
