Donation drive for Southland Charity Hospital

Southland Charity Hospital fundraisers are preparing to paint the town red, black and white this Friday.

Melissa Vining and her supporters will be visiting schools, businesses and organisations across Invercargill from 9am, driving donations to establish the colonoscopy day hospital in memory of her late husband Blair.

Last year Red Black and White Day was supported by the launch of the ‘buy a brick for Blair’ campaign.

The fundraiser defied all expectations and has since sold over 10,100 bricks.

Melissa says: "Last year, we had our super successful brick fundraiser, so this year it has been awesome to hear the number of businesses and schools who will be buying another brick or finding new ways to demonstrate their support.

"We are so excited and grateful that the community continues to give us such generous support.

"It is really important that we are able to acknowledge the people who get behind us and visiting registered organisations is one way for us to do that."

This year, to celebrate Blair's legacy and help partly fund the additional $1 million dollars required to get the hospital operational, the trust has collaborated with Fabuleux Veus to create a jewellery range.

The line features pieces shaped like Blair Vining rugby jerseys as well as a rugby ball and a stunning Peace Lilly, Blair’s favourite flower.
