Eclectic musicians Craig Denham and John Sanders, known as The Alpaca Social Club, are returning to Gore this weekend with special guest musician Cousin Alice.
The trio will play at the Eastern Southland Galley on Sunday 20 March at 8pm.
With strong roots in acoustic, Celtic traditional, gypsy swing and various world music styles, The Alpaca Social Club say they will be performing a range of fresh sounds, including a taste of Arabic, Celtic, funk soul and gypsy jazz cultures.
Craig Denham, a pianist and accordionist, and bassouki player and guitarist Jon Sanders will be joined by Cousin Alice, who’s voice has been likened by one listener to a cross between Tom Waits, Peggy Lee and Marianne Faithfull.
The three say they have performed together for several years, often collaborating when in the same city or at the same festival.
Eastern Southland Gallery Programmes Officer, Marcella Geddes encourages all to come along.
“Jon Sanders and Craig Denham have delighted Gore audiences on a number of occasions in both Beyondsemble [another band they are both members of] and The Alpaca Social Club,” she says.
“We are delighted to welcome them back with Cousin Alice for what promises to be a highly entertaining and enjoyable evening. Come and be beguiled.”
Tickets: Adults $30, Gallery Members $25, Students $10.
