Diacks Nurseries Newsletter 26th February

WHATS HAPPENING

We have had a good spell of great weather the last couple of weeks.

A bit cooler in the mornings but definitely awesome day temperatures.

The white butterflies are absolutely loving it.

So its time to treat your brassicas with derris dust.

A good substitute though is natural debug (Diatomaceous earth insect dust).

It is organic, non toxic, chemical free, odorless AND environmentally friendly.

What more could you want!

If you also prefer an organic spray we have bactur certifide organic.

It contains a naturally occurring bacteria.

Success ULTRA is another option for a new generation insecticide derived from beneficial soil bacteria.

This covers a WIDE range of insects like psyllid, thrips, fruit moth, coddling moth & leaf roller.

Success moves from upper to lower leaf surfaces.

Pests stop feeding immediately but may take 3 days to die.

It is suitable for a wide range of fruit & vegetables and it is rainfast.

We have new stock in... A good range of native plants, Hebes, Manuka & Pittosporums.

Also some more flowering Callunas and Ericas.

Miniature Kowhais are a favourite.

Plenty instore.

Single Hyacinth bulbs have arrived in.

4 different colours.

These are great for pots or glass jars on the windowsill.

Geraniums in full flower are $5.00 each and there has also been more flowering Hydrangeas in blue, pink & white come in.

Vegetable plants are looking good.

These are ready for planting now for the winter harvest crop.

Some crops can go in the tunnelhouse, especially leafy crops like silverbeet, spinach or lettuce.

Herbs such as Parlsey & Coriander.

There are still a few flower plants about starting to flower.

Petunias, Marigolds & Begonias will flower until the 1st frosts.

We still have a steady interest in indoor plants.

There are some peace lilies, and Antirrhinum.

Beautiful red waxy flowers that last a very long time.

Same goes for the Orchids.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING

Watering and harvesting at this time of the year.

Tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, lettuce etc

NO excuse not to have salads at this time of the year.

A LOT of hedge trimming happening at the moment.

Trimmed now gives the hedge a chance to make some new growth before winter.

Some fertiliser is also recommended.

Keep an eye out for pests & diseases & weeds.

CONSTANT summer problems
