UPDATE: 8.15pm – SH6 in Winton reopened after crash

State Highway 6/Great North Road in Winton has reopened following a serious crash this afternoon.

Following the work of emergency services at the scene, the section of SH6 between Eglinton Street and Dejoux Road is now clear.   

A detour is available after State Highway 6/Great North Road in the Southland town of Winton has been closed because of a crash.

Police say the two-vehicle crash was reported just after 3pm and initial indications are that there are serious injuries.

SH6/Great North Road is closed between Eglinton Street and Dejoux Road.

The detour for northbound traffic is turning left onto Dejoux Road, right on Park Street and right on to Eglinton Street.

The reverse applies for southbound traffic.
