An Invercargill cyclist was hospitalised with serious injuries after a crash with a car last night.

The crash, at the intersection of SH1/Tay Street and Mcmaster Street in central Invercargill, was reported to police just before 9.30pm.

Police closed the road between Queens Drive and Mary Street overnight and diversions were in place.

It has reopened this morning.
