RNZ understands there are now two positive cases of Covid-19 in Wellington.

It's understood the cases are part of the same family and in the suburb of Miramar.

The capital's due to move out of Alert Level 4 at midnight - but an announcement about any level changes will be made this afternoon.

The hospital has closed its emergency department and short stay surgical unit.

NZ Post this morning also revealed it has a positive case - a temporary member of their processing team working at their Auckland Operations Centre in Highbrook.

In a statement it says the worker was last at work on Monday and they have not attended work since they became sick.

It is not clear if this case has already been included in the Ministry of Health's list of positive cases.
