The Health Minister announced today (19 Sept) that the contract for the construction of Dunedin Hospital’s new inpatient building has been signed with CPB Contractors Limited.

Invercargill MP Penny Simmonds welcomed progress on the new Dunedin hospital rebuild, saying Southerners will be getting the modern, world-class hospital that they need and deserve.

“This project means so much to the people of this province and beyond, and to see it progressing to the next stage is both positive and exciting."

“The Government is making a major investment in Dunedin hospital and we are ensuring that it gets built in a timely fashion to benefit the people of the South," Simmonds said.

“We have made a commitment to the people of the South that they will get a modern, fit-for-purpose hospital, and this latest development confirms that."

“As a tertiary hospital, Dunedin is incredibly important to us and I know that it will be with great satisfaction that local people see it progressing to this next stage."

“The $1.88 billion new Dunedin Hospital programme is New Zealand’s single biggest health infrastructure project and reflects the Government’s commitment to the South. "

The Outpatient Building is expected to reach practical completion in July 2026 and be operational in October 2026, while hospital is due for practical completion in 2030 and will open to patients in 2031.
