What an exciting term it has been so far at Winton School, with many things happening and lots still to come.

At the start of the term our Year 5 students went to Camp Columba and all had a fantastic time.

Children were able to try many new things and got to spend time with, and make new friends.

Earlier this month we held our biennial Pet Day.

We had a large number of animals attend including; calves, lambs, dogs, rabbits and cats.

Students were judged on how well they knew their pets and were able to discuss this with the judges.

Other events included Agri Kids, Dad Cakes and our Senior Pallet Projects.

It was a huge undertaking which would not be possible without our sponsors, judges and organising committee.

We look forward to holding this again in 2024.

After completing our school athletics in Term 1, we were finally able to have Central Athletics last week.

Our competitors put their best foot forward with a large number qualifying for the Southland Championships, to be held at Surrey Park.

Good luck to all of you.

We also had a victorious golf team at the Central-Western event who will now compete at a Southland level too.

Our Interhouse Challenges are nearing the end and there are still a number of Houses still in with a chance for overall victory.

Our latest challenge was Tug of War, which is always fun.

The staff stepped up and showed the Year 8’s how it’s done.

Senior Swimming has started and everyone is enjoying the survival programme provided.

With so much water accessible in New Zealand, this is an important part of our curriculum.

To celebrate swimming our Year 8’s will be attending a deep water challenge at Splash Place.

We start Junior Swimming in a weeks time.

Over the next few weeks we still have a School Disco, Year 6 Camp to Queenstown, Tough Kids, Book Fair, Interhouse Teams Challenge, School Waterfight and Prizegving to come.

So much to talk about we just can’t fit it all in.
