Welcome back to Wallacetown school!
Here’s what we’ve been up to so far this Winter!
School was a busy wee place at the end of term 2 with our Jumping June celebration, two teams competing in the Young Einstein Quiz in Winton, Kiwi Can each week, Golden Time, Student led assemblies, getting ready for Central Cup and all the learning and happenings in our classrooms.
Southland Cross Country - Well done to both Zaria and Myla who competed at Southland Cross Country last Friday.
The field of competitors was big with up to 90 students racing per age group.
These girls can be immensely proud of their efforts and their placings.
Zaria finished 11th in the 10 year old girls section and Myla finished 32nd in the 11 year old girls.
We are so proud of them.
At the start of term3 we welcomed a number of new faces to Wallacetown School staffroom.
Jan Bartlett was relieving in room 3 while Miriam was on leave, Michelle and Kylie have joined our staff team as Teacher Aides and Mr Ty Matika who is in Room 4 for the first 5 weeks of term completing his teacher training.
Week 3 we had Austin start in room 2 , and we hope he enjoys his time here at Wallacetown School!
This year for Matariki we’ve been hard at work in our classrooms making, creating and celebrating Matariki and the Māori New Year.
Great to hear of the goals our students have set themselves for the second half of the school year and the aspirations they have for themselves at Wallacetown School.
Here is some of the awesome artwork the pupils created.
Room 1 had been busy rehearsing and performing plays.
Room 2 are always enjoying being creative in class time.
In early August we had the Book Fair where families could come and choose books, and to cap it off we had our book character dress up day.
The theme this year was ‘Hats off to Reading’ and we had a great turnout of some amazing costumes.
Wallacetown sure does love a dress up day!
Maths Week - During the afternoon breaks in week 5, Ms McKenzie had been holding math quizzes all based on her travels – money, food, measurement, and time!
There’s been lots of mathematical thinking and Room 3 seemed to be the place to be at afternoon break!
Whānau Challenge – Also this week, Ms McKenzie set a Whānau Challenge – a chance to do a price breakdown of an evening meal.
Some food for thought there in the challenge from Ms McKenzie!
In Week 5 we had Jackson start in room 2
Sports Teams - A big thank you to our coaches, managers and parents who transport students to and from sports both in school time and after school.
We are grateful for the excellent support we have and gosh we’ve got lots of keen kids who are keen to join teams and play which is so great to see!
Cluster Speech Competition: Emily & Melilah took part in the speech competition end of week 5.
Emily’s speech was on NZ history & Melilah shared her speech all about ‘My Grandpa’ and she placed placed 3rd!
We are so proud of both girls!
Polyfest – the Students have been working so hard all year, and we performed onstage Wednesday 23 August at 10.40am.
A massive thank you to Whaea Nish who has been leading our Kapa Haka practices.
Photos will be uploaded to facebook and the website for you to all enjoy
