Celebrating Southland Schools

30 August 2022, 8:45 PM

CLASS ACTION: Wallacetown School

Term 2 & 3 2022 – June/July & August 2022

We started off June celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s 70th Jubilee and wow is all we can say!

We Loved all the best dressed outfits – if the Queen was here in person she would be blown away!

The Staff and Children and members of the Community all had a great day!

Mitchell & Maci with the invites

Her Majesty the Queen with very handsome Rocco and Marco!

Her Majesty outside the Office!

 Some of the yummy Treats!

Following on from that excitement, we had 21 representing Wallacetown School at the Central Cross Country on Friday 10th of June.

They did an awesome job, with Arthur finishing 4th in his race for 10yo boys, and then being selected for the Central Cross Country team run at Waimumu on June 17th.

Well done Arthur – we are very proud of you!

Matariki Public Holidays and celebrations!

June 24th we acknowledged and celebrated Matariki, it was great to hear the different events the students attended over the long weekend and to also celebrate ourselves on Thursday 23rd.

We had shared kai!

We made a delicious vegetable soup with donation of vegetables for our soup from Whānau – which was popular!

Our Gardening Club also harvested some greens for us to put in the soup.

It was great to be able to enjoy our garden produce – so thank you to the ‘Garden Rippers’ and Ms McKenzie for your hard work.

It's great being part of a small school, as the children do get to try many sports/ activities.

July 1 was the years 5 & 6 at Central Cup - playing netball, volleyball, basketball and football.

A great day with lots of smiles and sporty fun!

As ever, our families who can offer transport and their time in ‘managing’ the teams is invaluable, and we are so thankful to them.

We have had quite a few new children start their learning journey at Wallacetown.

At the end of term 2 Jet Started in Room 2

On the first day of term 3, Isabel also joined room 2

Room 3 began term 3 with a lovely Class photo in the Winter sun!!

We started term 3 with a visit from El Grego 1 August who shared his show “You’ve got the Power”.

The key messaging was around being a good friend and dealing with bullying when it occurs, giving the kids great tips to use.

Eliza had fun with Elgrego!

Mini Commonwealth Games was held on Friday 5th August.

We kicked off with our opening ceremony at 9:25am, and parents joined us throughout the day as the different countries competed!

Our medal ceremony was part of our weekly assembly.

Team Canada took the Gold Medal this time.

On 8th August, we welcomed Rowan to Room 2

11 August we had our book week, and it was Dress up as your favourite character!

Even the Staff, along with Ko Taku Reo loved dressing up!

Thanks to Glenys from Pypers Produce for the donation of carrots and carrot juice - hugely appreciated and judging by these smiles they’re looking forward to eating and drinking the goods!

Polyfest - Wednesday 24th August.

We performed on the stage at 12:40pm.

What a day!

We were incredibly proud to be part of Wallacetown School seeing our students on stage performing and the smiles on their faces!

All the practices and work behind the scenes is a testament to our teachers and to Whaea Nish who has organised us all in preparation, her organisation and eye for detail was evident throughout the whole day.

Being able to come together and perform on the Polyfest stage and be part of the day and the atmosphere is a huge deal given we’ve had two years where we have contributed virtually as a school thanks to Covid.

Part of this event being a success is the work that the Mīharo Trust do, this includes our very own Whaea Nish who is a Key Leader within this team.

Bradan, Connor, Emily and Pippa get to help give back and be part of this community by joining Nish at Polyfest and the giving of their time to be part of the action.

A huge thanks to everyone who joined us in person or online as we performed – we were blown away when we saw how much support we had in the audience afterwards.

There are lots more images and updates to see on the school website!
